A Bright Wedding

When a wedding starts with a team of hired drummers, glittery feathers, and a bride and groom dressed in brilliant canary yellow, I know I'm not in Kansas anymore.

Malaysian weddings tend toward a regal, show-stopping style, much bolder and more dramatic than the typically poetic American aesthetic.

My host's cousin's wedding was a good example of this phenomenon. Everything about the couple's special day, from the lime green uniforms of the drum team to the spicy flavors of the food to the hot pink of the fruit punch, was as splashy and colorful as a jungle full of parrots.

And while my American sensibilities still tend to think of brides in white lace with bouquets of pale roses, I've learned to see the vibrant beauty in a bright yellow wedding.

  1. Wow!! I really found this Malaysian wedding fantastic. The couple’s dresses, food, and décor everything seems awesome here. Had never attended a Malaysian wedding, but would love to be a part of such event. Next week have to be at my cousin’s wedding at one of Los Angeles wedding venues. Quite happy for the day.
