A Celebration Of Love

"Christmas is love in action. Every time we love, every time we give, it's Christmas." -Dale Evans

"God is in the details." -Ludwig Mies van der Rohe

Here we go - it's Christmas once more and you are invited into our house to peek into our festivities. All four daughters have flown back to the nest, and we're also joined by two special family friends. Eight humans, three pets, and a lovely abundance of Christmas spirit. Let the celebration begin!

^ Grace has a knack for understanding when there's something special going on in the house; she cleverly attempts to take advantage of that chaos to score a few forbidden treats. For the most part, we stayed one step ahead of her today: not a single cookie passed her lips but she did scarf down a few bites of frittata.

^ Our Christmas tree sits in front of the windows this year, and our ever-expanding collection of paper snowflakes adorning the walls. We're definitely shaking things up.

^ While watching The Holiday last week for the forty-seventh time, I was suddenly overcome by the mad desire to hang brightly colored paper chains against my bookshelves. Thanks, Jude Law, for your  style inspiration.

^ With the tree in front of the living room window, a goodly number of my plants have taken up temporary residence in our library. I celebrate their new location with a pom pom garland and lots of light.

^ Once upon a time, we used to put our Christmas tree in the family room every other year, but as our young humans grew and multiplied, we quickly realized that this room is too small and too busy for a big ol' tree. So now we always put the tree in the living room but we make sure this end of the house still gets a nice holiday zhush.

^ The stockings are filled to the brim, the tree is surrounded by a sea of presents, and Gracie is parked in the middle of the room. We are ready for Christmas lift off.
