Maybe it was the long, dry summer.
Maybe it was the extra mulch and watering.
Maybe it is just my lucky year.
But even now, in the first week of October, my August-blooming pink echinacea are still going full blast. Those sweet purplish petals and spikey orange centers, perhaps a bit faded and scraggly after all these weeks, are still the highlight of my front garden.
And I could not be more pleased about this determined icon of endless summer.
